As promised first last saturday and also yesterday, here’s the story about the model casting of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Days Zurich which happened exactly one week ago. I have not been there as a model of course and at these lines I want to make clear that I don’t do modeling at all. Just wanted to clear that up because some of you think I do work as a model as I took notice from email messages and comments here on the blog. Well, anyway, back to the theme… I have been invited to the casting by the big Fashion Days sponsor Mercedes-Benz to get a little insight how it’s going on backstage and generally find out more about the prearrangement of the big show which takes place from 13 to 16 november (yeah, only a few weeks left… can’t wait!).
I can tell you, I expected something way different. I can’t exactly say why and what I thought is different but I was quite surprised that every model has only about 20 seconds to convince the casting director of IMG. When I actually think about it, it’s quite obvious especially with an eye on the hundreds of models trying to get booked for the show. Whats more, I always thought there’s a jury of at least 2 or 3 persons appraising the models and picking the best ones out. So while entering the casting room, I was like “What? There’s one man sitting… Where’s the rest?”. But again, it’s logical… there’s no chance to discuss in group within the short time each model has. Another wrong imagination of me was the fact, that I thought the models will not be chosen during the casting itself. But that’s what happened. There were 6 stacks on the table: 3 for woman, 3 for man. One for “booked”, the other two for “maybe booked” and “not booked”. Furthermore it was quite impressive how Roger, the Casting Director was able to guess the high of the models perfectly.
At the end I must say, it was quite an interesting experience not only because of the experience itself rather than meeting the people there and having a talk with them. These which are living in Switzerland might know the swiss male super model Fabian Pfenninger (the guy in the picture at the top) which was at the casting as well and obviously (what else?!) is one of the booked models for the show! So then, see you in two days here on the blog…. stay tuned for the all black look I have worn for the casting.
